NorthWest EMS has been providing emergency medical services to the citizens of Northwest Allegheny counties. The agency began operations in 2002, and currently operates a fleet of 10 ambulances and 3 specialty resource vehicles. Five ambulance stations are strategically located throughout the service response area, and full time district chiefs are on duty to provide additional support in times of increased demand. Northwest EMS also has the capability of non emergency transportation, for those patients who require basic or advanced life support care for an interfacility trip. Medical command for NorthWest's ambulances is furnished by Allegheny General Hospital. Emergency medicine residents are able to take advantage of that collaborative relationship through ride alongs on ambulances, response vehicles, and participation in continuing medical education.
